Blackjam: Objects of Designed Happenstance by designer, Jennifer Morris.
Jennifer’s unique jewelry is impeccably hand-sewn, employing embroidery and bead weaving. All of Jennifer’s designs are one of a kind, utilizing vintage beads, buttons, cabochons, reconditioned bits of costume jewelry and fabric scraps appropriated from fellow designers.
Jennifer has been doing needlework since her childhood. What started out as a way to entertain a child when going though major surgery and illness has become a vocation.
Inspired by needlework of the past and deeply engaged in the world of modern textile arts, Jennifer attended Sheridan College: School of Craft and Design, were she majored in Textiles. She was Artist in Residence at The Textile Studio in Harbourfront’s Craft Studios. She has traveled to Paris to see the embroidery of the Haute Couture houses and studied the Lunéville embroidery technique used in the House of Lesage.
Having tried her hand at many media, Jennifer is continually drawn back to her needles and thread. While her design inspiration can be found in many places… she loves the history of design, art and popular culture, in the end it is colour and texture: the way they mix and play off one another; and the seemingly endless ways they can be used in design – much like fabric. Thus Jennifer has found a way of weaving her love of textiles into her jewelry designs.
